20th Safar- /Arbaeen (Chehlum - 40th day after Ashura )

' Arbaeen ' witnesses the LARGEST peaceful gathering EVER on the earth. Millions visit Kerbala- Iraq , to commemorate the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (as) the grandson of the Prophet of Islam, in yr 680 AD !

According to Imam Hasan bin Ali Al Askari (as) The signs of a true believer are five:-
1) Recite 51 Rak—a’t Salaat during the 24 hours of the day (17 Rak—a’ts obligatory, + 34 Rak—a’ts in Naafilah Salaats).
2) Be in Karbala for Ziyarat of Imam Husayn (as)/other martyrs, or at least recite Ziyarat of the Holy Imam as given below
3) To wear a ring in the right hand.
4) To put the forehead on the earth (preferably on the earth of Karbala) in prostration.
5) To pronounce “Bismillahir-Rah’maanir-Rah’eem” in clear and loud voice while praying the salats.

The Purpose of Imams mission is very well summarised in this ziarat as "...made every effort and put his heart, mind, soul and life at the disposal of Thy mission to liberate the people from the yoke of ignorance" Reported by Shaykh al-Tusi, in Tahdhib al-Ahkam and Misbah al-Mutahajjid, from Safwan al-Jammal who said: My master al-Sadiq, Allah’s blessings be upon him, instructed me to visit Imam al-Husayn (`a) on the Arba`in Day, in the early forenoon, and to say the following words

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ وَلِيِّ ٱللَّهِ وَحَبِيبِهِ
alssalamu `ala waliyyi allahi wa habibihi
Peace be upon the intimate servant of Allah and His most-beloved.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ خَلِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَنَجِيبِهِ
alssalamu `ala khalili allahi wa najibihi
Peace be upon the friend of Allah and His elite.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ صَفِيِّ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنِ صَفِيِّهِ
alssalamu `ala safiyyi allahi wabni safiyyihi
Peace be upon the choice of Allah and son of His choice.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَىٰ ٱلْحُسَيْنِ ٱلْمَظْلُومِ ٱلشَّهِيدِ
alssalamu `ala alhusayni almazlumi alshshahidi
Peace be upon al-Husayn the wronged and martyred.

اَلسَّلاَمُ علىٰ اسِيرِ ٱلْكُرُبَاتِ
alssalamu `ala asiri alkurubati
Peace be upon the captive of agonies

وَقَتِيلِ ٱلْعَبَرَاتِ
wa qatili al`abarati
and victim of the shed tears.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِِنِّي اشْهَدُ انَّهُ وَلِيُّكَ وَٱبْنُ وَلِيِّكَ
allahumma inni ashhadu annahu waliyyuka wabnu waliyyika
O Allah, I do bear witness that he is verily Your intimate servant and son of Your intimate servant,

وَصَفِيُّكَ وَٱبْنُ صَفِيِّكَ
wa safiyyuka wabnu safiyyika
Your choice and son of Your choice,

ٱلْفَائِزُ بِكَرَامَتِكَ
alfa'izu bikaramatika
and the winner of Your honoring.

اكْرَمْتَهُ بِٱلشَّهَادَةِ
akramtahu bilshshahadati
You have honored him with martyrdom,

وَحَبَوْتَهُ بِٱلسَّعَادَةِ
wa habawtahu bilssa`adati
endued him with happiness,

وَٱجْتَبَيْتَهُ بِطِيبِ ٱلْوِلاَدَةِ
wajtabaytahu bitibi alwiladati
privileged him with legitimate birth,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ سَيِّداً مِنَ ٱلسَّادَةِ
wa ja`altahu sayyidan min alssadati
made him one of the chiefs,

وَقَائِداً مِنَ ٱلْقَادَةِ
wa qa'idan min alqadati
one of the leaders,

وَذَائِداً مِنْ ٱلذَّادَةِ
wa dha'idan min aldhdhadati
and one of the defenders (of Your religion),

وَاعْطَيْتَهُ مَوَارِيثَ ٱلانْبِيَاءِ
wa a`taytahu mawaritha al-anbiya'i
gave him the inheritances of the Prophets,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ حُجَّةً عَلَىٰ خَلْقِكَ مِنَ ٱلاوْصِيَاءِ
wa ja`altahu hujjatan `ala khalqika min al-awsiya'i
and chose him as argument against Your created beings and one of the Prophets’ successors.

فَاعْذَرَ فِي ٱلدُّعَاءِ
fa a`dhara fi alddu`a'i
So, he called to you flawlessly,

وَمَنَحَ ٱلنُّصْحَ
wa manaha alnnusha
gave advices,

وَبَذَلَ مُهْجَتَهُ فِيكَ
wa badhala muhjatahu fika
and sacrificed his soul for You

لِيَسْتَنْقِذَ عِبَادَكَ مِنَ ٱلْجَهَالَةِ
liyastanqidha `ibadaka min aljahalati
to save Your servants from ignorance

وَحَيْرَةِ ٱلضَّلاَلَةِ
wa hayrati alddalalati
and perplexity of straying off.

وَقَدْ تَوَازَرَ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ غَرَّتْهُ ٱلدُّنْيَا
wa qad tawazara `alayhi man gharrat-hu alddunya
Yet, those whom were seduced by this worldly life,

وَبَاعَ حَظَّهُ بِٱلارْذَلِ ٱلادْنَىٰ
wa ba`a hazzahu bil-ardhali al-adna
who sold their share (of reward) with the lowliest and meanest,

وَشَرَىٰ آخِرَتَهُ بِٱلثَّمَنِ ٱلاوْكَسِ
wa shara akhiratahu bilththamani al-awkasi
retailed their Hereafter with the cheapest price,

وَتَغَطْرَسَ وَتَرَدَّىٰ فِي هَوَاهُ
wa taghatrasa wa taradda fi hawahu
acted haughtily, perished because of following their desires,

وَاسْخَطَكَ وَاسْخَطَ نَبِيَّكَ
wa askhataka wa askhata nabiyyaka
brought to themselves Your wrath and the wrath of Your Prophet,

وَاطَاعَ مِنْ عِبَادِكَ اهْلَ ٱلشِّقَاقِ وَٱلنِّفَاقِ
wa ata`a min `ibadika ahla alshshiqaqi walnnifaqi
and obeyed the dissident and hypocritical servants of You

وَحَمَلَةَ ٱلاوْزَارِ ٱلْمُسْتَوْجِبِينَ ٱلنَّارَ
wa hamalata al-awzari almustawjibina alnnara
and the bearers of the burdens (of sins) who deserve Hellfire—all those supported each other against him.

فَجَاهَدَهُمْ فِيكَ صَابِراً مُحْتَسِباً
fajahadahum fika sabiran muhtasiban
However, he fought against them painstakingly with steadfastness expecting Your reward

حَتَّىٰ سُفِكَ فِي طَاعَتِكَ دَمُهُ
hatta sufika fi ta`atika damuhu
until his blood was shed on account of his obedience to You

وَٱسْتُبِيحَ حَرِيـمُهُ
wastubiha harimuhu
and his women were violated.

اَللَّهُمَّ فَٱلْعَنْهُمْ لَعْناً وَبيلاًَ
allahumma fal`anhum la`nan wabilan
So, O Allah, pour heavy curses on them

وَعَذِّبْهُمْ عَذَاباً الِيماً
wa `adhdhibhum `adhaban aliman
and chastise them with painful chastisement.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
alssalamu `alayka yabna rasuli allahi
Peace be upon you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بْنَ سَيِّدِ ٱلاوْصِيَاءِ
alssalamu `alayka yabna sayyidi al-awsiya'i
Peace be upon you, O son of the chief of the Prophets’ successors.

اشْهَدُ انَّكَ امِينُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبْنُ امِينِهِ
ashhadu annaka aminu allahi wabnu aminihi
I bear witness that you are verily the trustee of Allah and the son of His trustee.

عِشْتَ سَعيداً
`ishta sa`idan
You lived with happiness,

وَمَضَيْتَ حَمِيداً
wa madayta hamidan
passed away with praiseworthiness,

وَمُتَّ فَقِيداً مَظْلُوماً شَهِيداً
wa mutta faqidan mazluman shahidan
and died missed, wronged, and martyred.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱللَّهَ مُنْجِزٌ مَا وَعَدَكَ
wa ashhadu anna allaha munjizun ma wa`adaka
I also bear witness that Allah shall inevitably fulfill His promise to You,

وَمُهْلِكٌ مَنْ خَذَلَكَ
wa muhlikun man khadhalaka
exterminate those who disappointed you,

وَمُعَذِّبٌ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ
wa mu`adhdhibun man qatalaka
and chastise those who slew you.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّكَ وَفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ
wa ashhadu annaka wafayta bi`ahdi allahi
I also bear witness that you fulfilled your pledge to Allah

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ حَتَّىٰ اتَاكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ
wa jahadta fi sabilihi hatta ataka alyaqinu
and strove hard in His way until death came upon you.

فَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ
fala`ana allahu man qatalaka
So, may Allah curse those who slew you.

وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ
wa la`ana allahu man zalamaka
May Allah curse those who wronged you.

وَلَعَنَ ٱللَّهُ امَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذٰلِكَ فَرَضِيَتْ بِهِ
wa la`ana allahu ummatan sami`at bidhalika faradiyat bihi
May Allah curse the people who, when informed about that, were pleased with it.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِِنِّي اشْهِدُكَ انِّي وَلِيٌّ لِمَنْ وَالاَهُ
allahumma inni ushhiduka anni waliyyun liman walahu
O Allah, I do ask You to witness for me that I am loyalist to those who are loyalists to him

وَعَدُوٌّ لِمَنْ عَادَاهُ
wa `aduwwun liman `adahu
and enemy of those who are enemies of him.

بِابِي انْتَ وَامِّي يَا بْنَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ
bi'abi anta wa ummi yabna rasuli allahi
May my father and mother be accepted as ransoms for you, O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اشْهَدُ انَّكَ كُنْتَ نُوراً فِي ٱلاصْلاَبِ ٱلشَّامِخَةِ
ashhadu annaka kunta nuran fi al-aslabi alshshamikhati
I bear witness that you were light in the sublime loins

وَٱلارْحَامِ ٱلْمُطَهَّرَةِ
wal-arhami almutahharati
and purified wombs;

لَمْ تُنَجِّسْكَ ٱلْجَاهِلِيَّةُ بِانْجَاسِهَا
lam tunajjiska aljahiliyyatu bi'anjasiha
the impurities of the Ignorance Era could not object you to filth

وَلَمْ تُلْبِسْكَ ٱلْمُدْلَهِمَّاتُ مِنْ ثِيَابِهَا
wa lam tulbiska almudlahimmatu min thiyabiha
nor could its murky clothes dress you.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّكَ مِنْ دَعَائِمِ ٱلدِّينِ
wa ashhadu annaka min da`a'imi alddini
I also bear witness that you are one of the mainstays of the religion,

وَارْكَانِ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ
wa arkani almuslimina
the supports of Muslims,

وَمَعْقِلِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
wa ma`qili almu'minina
and the haven of the believers.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّكَ ٱلإِمَامُ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلتَّقِيُّ
wa ashhadu annaka al-imamu albarru alttaqiyyu
I also bear witness that you are the God-fearing, pious,

ٱلرَّضِيُّ ٱلزَّكِيُّ
alrradiyyu alzzakiyyu
pleased, immaculate,

ٱلْهَادِي ٱلْمَهْدِيُّ
alhadi almahdiyyu
guide, and well-guided Imam.

وَاشْهَدُ انَّ ٱلائِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِكَ كَلِمَةُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ
wa ashhadu anna al-a'immata min wuldika kalimatu alttaqwa
And I bear witness that the Imams from your progeny are the spokesmen of piety,

وَاعْلاَمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ
wa a`lamu alhuda
the signs of guidance,

وَٱلْعُرْوَةُ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ
wal`urwatu alwuthqa
the firmest handle (of Islam),

وَٱلْحُجَّةُ علىٰ اهْلِ ٱلدُّنْيَا
walhujjatu `ala ahli alddunya
and the decisive Argument against the inhabitants of the world.

وَاشْهَدُ انِّي بِكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ وَبِإِِيَابِكُمْ
wa ashhadu anni bikum mu'minun wa bi'iyabikum
I also bear witness that I believe in you all and in your Return,

مُوقِنٌ بِشَرَايِعِ دِينِي وَخَوَاتِيمِ عَمَلِي
muqinun bisharayi`i dini wa khawatimi `amali
I have full confidence in the laws of my religion and in the seals of my deeds,

وَقَلْبِي لِقَلْبِكُمْ سِلْمٌ
wa qalbi liqalbikum silmun
my heart is at peace with you all,

وَامْرِي لاِمْرِكُمْ مُتَّبِعٌ
wa amri li'amrikum muttabi`un
all my affairs are based on your commands,

وَنُصْرَتِي لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ
wa nusrati lakum mu`addatun
and my support for you all is already all set

حَتَّىٰ يَاذَنَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ
hatta ya'dhana allahu lakum
until Allah permits you.

فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ
fama`akum ma`akum
So, I am with you. I am with you,

لاََ مَعَ عَدُوِّكُمْ
la ma`a `adduwwikum
not with your enemies.

صَلَوَاتُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ
salawatu allahi `alaykum
Allah’s blessings be upon you,

وَعَلَىٰ ارْوَاحِكُمْ وَاجْسَادِكُمْ
wa `ala arwahikum wa ajsadikum
upon your souls, upon your bodies,

وَشَاهِدِكُمْ وَغَائِبِكُمْ
wa shahidikum wa gha'ibikum
upon the present and the absent from you,

وَظَاهِرِكُمْ وَبَاطِنِكُمْ
wa zahirikum wa batinikum
and upon the apparent and the invisible from you.

آمِينَ رَبَّ ٱلْعَالَمِينَ
amina rabba al`alamina
Respond to us, O Lord of the Worlds.

Recite 2 Rakat Salat and seek your needs.

Short Ziarat
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا آلَ ٱللَّهِ
alssalamu `alaykum ya ala allahi
Peace be upon you all, O Household of Allah.
السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا صَفْوَةَ ٱللَّهِ…
alssalamu `alaykum ya safwata allahi…
Peace be upon you all, O elite of Allah…
The pilgrimage supplications for visiting the shrine of Al-Abbas – the son of our Master – the Commander of the Faithful Ali (as), and those who were martyred along with Al-Hussein (MGB) is similar. On this day, perform the pilgrimage supplications for them in the same way that was explained before about the pilgrimage procedures for the day of Ashura or recite one of the other pilgrimage supplications for them as reported on the authority of other Divine Leaders (as).

Iqbal Aamal extract :
The following is narrated through a chain of documents to Abi Muhammad Harun ibn Musa al-Talakbari, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ma‟mar, on the authority of Abul Hassan Ali ibn Mas‟adat and Al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Fazzal, on the authority of Sa'dan ibn Muslim, on the authority of Safvan ibn Mihran. My Master as-Sadiq (MGB) told me the following regarding the pilgrimage supplications for the Day of Arbaeen, "Go to visit the shrine at the midst of the day and say the following,

Al-ʿAskarī (peace be upon him) said: "The signs of a believer are five: the fifty-one rak'ahs of prayer, the visitation of Arbaeen, wearing a ring on the right hand, prostrating on the ground, and pronouncing Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim aloud."
Abū Rayḥān al-Bīrūnī said: "On the twentieth of Ṣafar, the holy head was returned to his body and buried with it. In it is the visitation of Arbaeen, and the coming of his family after their return from Syria."
Shaykh al-Tusi said: "And it is the day when Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Ḥarām al-Anṣārī, the companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), came from Madinah to Karbala to visit the grave of Abī ʿAbdallāh (peace be upon him) and he was the first to visit him from among the people."
Shaykh al-Bahā’ī said: "And on this day, which is the fortieth day of his martyrdom (peace be upon him), Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh al-Anṣārī (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived to visit him (peace be upon him), and on that day, his family (peace be upon them) arrived from Syria to Karbala, heading towards Madinah, upon its inhabitants be peace and greetings."
Al-ʿAllāmah al-Majlisī said: "It is well-known among the companions that the reason for this (i.e., the recommendation to visit him on the day of Arbaeen) is the return of his family on that day to Karbala after their return from Syria, and the joining of the heads with the bodies by ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon him)."
Ṣafwān ibn Mihrān said: "My master al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon him) said to me regarding the visit of Arbaeen, you visit at noon and say: al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon him)."
السَّلامُ عَلَى وَ لِيِّ اللّهِ وَحَبِيبِهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalā walī Allāh wa ḥabībihi,
Peace be upon the friend of Allah and His beloved,

السَّلامُ عَلَى خَلِيلِ اللّهِ وَنَجِيّه ،
As-salāmu ʿalā khalīl Allāh wa najīyihi,
Peace be upon the confidant of Allah and His intimate,

السَّلامُ عَلَى صَفِيِّ اللّهِ وَابْنِ صَفِيِّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalā ṣafī Allāh wa ibn ṣafīyihi,
Peace be upon the chosen one of Allah and the son of His chosen one,

السَّلامُ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ الْمَظْلُومِ الشَّهِيدِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalā al-Ḥusayn al-maẓlūm ash-shahīd,
Peace be upon al-Ḥusayn, the oppressed martyr,

السَّلامُ عَلَى أَسِيرِ الْكُرُباتِ وَقَتِيلِ الْعَبَرَاتِ .
As-salāmu ʿalā asīr al-kurubāt wa qatīl al-ʿabarāt,
Peace be upon the captive of sorrows and the slain of tears.

اللّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَشْهَدُ أَ نَّهُ وَ لِيُّكَ وَابْنُ وَ لِيِّكَ ،
Allāhumma innī ashhadu annahu walīyuka wa ibn walīyika,
O Allah, I bear witness that he is Your friend and the son of Your friend,

وَصَفِيُّكَ وَابْنُ صَفِيِّكَ ،
Wa ṣafīyuka wa ibn ṣafīyika,
And Your chosen one and the son of Your chosen one,

الْفَائِزُ بِكَرَامَتِكَ ،
Al-fā’iz bi-karāmatik,
The one who achieved Your honor,

أَكْرَمْتَهُ بِالشَّهَادَةِ ،
Akramtahu bi-shahādah,
You honored him with martyrdom,

وَحَبَوْتَهُ بِالسَّعَادَةِ ،
Wa ḥabawtahu bi-saʿādah,
And bestowed upon him happiness,

وَاجْتَبَيْتَهُ بِطِيبِ الْوِلادَةِ ،
Wa ajtabaytahu bi-ṭīb al-wilādah,
And selected him with a pure birth,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ سَيِّداً مِنَ السَّادَةِ ،
Wa jaʿaltahu sayyidan mina as-sādah,
And made him a master among the masters,

وَقَائِداً مِنَ الْقَادَةِ ،
Wa qā’idan mina al-qādah,
And a leader among the leaders,

وَذَائِداً مِنَ الذَّادَةِ ،
Wa dhā’idan mina adh-dhādah,
And a defender among the defenders,

وَأَعْطَيْتَهُ مَوَارِيثَ الْأَ نْبِيَاءِ ،
Wa aʿṭaytahu mawārīth al-anbiyā’,
And You gave him the inheritances of the prophets,

وَجَعَلْتَهُ حُجَّةً عَلَى خَلْقِكَ مِنَ الْأَوْصِيَاءِ ،
Wa jaʿaltahu ḥujjatan ʿalā khalqik min al-awṣiyā’,
And made him a proof over Your creation from among the guardians,

فَأَعْذَرَ فِي الدُّعَاءِ ،
Fa’aʿdhara fī ad-duʿā’,
So he excused himself in calling,

وَمَنَحَ النُّصْحَ ،
Wa manaḥa an-nuṣḥ,
And he granted advice,

وَبَذَلَ مُهْجَتَهُ فِيكَ لِيَسْتَنْقِذَ عِبَادَكَ مِنَ الْجَهَالَةِ ،
Wa badhala muhjatahu fīka li-yastanqidh ʿibādaka mina al-jahālah,
And he sacrificed his life for You to save Your servants from ignorance,

وَحَيْرَةِ الضَّلالَةِ ،
Wa ḥayrat aḍ-ḍalālah,
And the bewilderment of misguidance,

وَقَدْ تَوَازَرَ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ غَرَّتْهُ الدُّنْيا ،
Wa qad tawāzara ʿalayhi man gharrathu ad-dunyā,
And those who were deceived by the world rallied against him,

وَبَاعَ حَظَّهُ بِالْأَرْذَلِ الْأَدْنى ،
Wa bāʿa ḥaẓẓahu bil-aradhali al-adnā,
And sold his share for the lowest and meanest,

وَشَرَى آخِرَتَهُ بِالثَّمَنِ الْأَوْكَسِ ،
Wa sharā ākhiratahu bi-th-thaman al-awkasu,
And exchanged his Hereafter for the cheapest price,

وَتَغَطْرَسَ وَتَرَدَّى فِي هَوَاهُ ،
Wa taghaṭrasa wa taraddā fī hawāhu,
And he became arrogant and fell into his desires,

وَأَسْخَطَكَ وَأَسْخَطَ نَبِيَّكَ ،
Wa askhaṭaka wa askhaṭa nabiyyak,
And angered You and angered Your Prophet,

وَأَطَاعَ مِنْ عِبادِكَ أَهْلَ الشِّقاقِ وَالنِّفاقِ ،
Wa aṭāʿa min ʿibādika ahl ash-shiqāq wa an-nifāq,
And obeyed from among Your servants the people of division and hypocrisy,

وَحَمَلَةَ الْأَوْزارِ ،
Wa ḥamalata al-awzār,
And the bearers of burdens,

الْمُسْتَوْجِبِينَ النَّارَ ،
Al-mustawjibīn an-nār,
Those who deserve the fire,

فَجاهَدَهُمْ فِيكَ صابِراً مُحْتَسِباً حَتَّى سُفِكَ فِي طَاعَتِكَ دَمُهُ ،
Fa-jāhadahum fīka ṣābiran muḥtasiban ḥattā sufiʾa fī ṭāʿatik damuhu,
So he fought them for Your sake, patient and seeking Your reward, until his blood was spilled in Your obedience,

وَاسْتُبِيحَ حَرِيمُهُ .
Wa istubīḥa ḥarīmu,
And his sanctity was violated.

اللّهُمَّ فَالْعَنْهُمْ لَعْناً وَبِيلاً ،
Allāhumma fa-alʿanhum laʿnan wabīlan,
O Allah, curse them with a severe curse,

وَعَذِّبْهُمْ عَذاباً أَلِيماً .
Wa ʿadhdhibhum ʿadhāban alīman,
And punish them with a painful punishment.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْأَوْصِياءِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn sayyid al-awṣiyāʾ,
Peace be upon you, O son of the master of the guardians,

أَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ أَمِينُ اللّهِ وَابْنُ أَمِينِهِ ،
Ashhadu annaka amīn Allāh wa ibn amīnih,
I bear witness that you are the trustee of Allah and the son of His trustee,

عِشْتَ سَعِيداً ،
ʿIshta saʿīdan,
You lived happily,

وَمَضَيْتَ حَمِيداً ،
Wa maḍayta ḥamīdan,
And departed praiseworthy,

وَمُتَّ فَقِيداً ،
Wa mutta faqīdan,
And died a martyr,

مَظْلُوماً شَهِيداً ،
Maẓlūman shahīdan,
Oppressed and martyred,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ اللّهَ مُنْجِزٌ لَكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ ،
Wa ashhadu anna Allāha munjiz laka mā waʿadak,
I bear witness that Allah will fulfill for you what He promised you,

وَمُهْلِكٌ مَنْ خَذَلَكَ ،
Wa muhlik man khadhalak,
And destroy those who abandoned you,

وَمُعَذِّبٌ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ ،
Wa muʿadhdhib man qatalak,
And punish those who killed you,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ وَفَيْتَ بِعَهْدِ اللّهِ ،
Wa ashhadu annaka wafayta bi-ʿahd Allāh,
I bear witness that you fulfilled the covenant with Allah,

وَجاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّه حَتّى أَتَاكَ الْيَقِينُ ،
Wa jāhadta fī sabīl Allāh ḥattā atāka al-yaqīn,
And fought in the way of Allah until certainty (death) came to you,

فَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ ،
Fa-laʿana Allāh man qatalak,
So may Allah curse those who killed you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man ẓalamak,
And may Allah curse those who wronged you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ أُمَّةً سَمِعَتْ بِذلِكَ فَرَضِيَتْ بِهِ .
Wa laʿana Allāh ummatan samiʿat bi-dhālika faradhiyat bihi,
And may Allah curse the nation that heard of that and was pleased with it.

اللّهُمَّ إِ نِّي أُشْهِدُكَ أَنِّي وَ لِيٌّ لِمَنْ والاهُ ،
Allāhumma innī ushhiduka annī walīyyun liman wālahu,
O Allah, I bear witness to You that I am a friend to those who befriend him,

وَعَدُوٌّ لِمَنْ عاداهُ ،
Wa ʿaduwwun liman ʿādāh,
And an enemy to those who oppose him,

بِأَبِي أَ نْتَ وَأُمِّي يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
Bi-abī anta wa-ummī yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,
My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O son of the Messenger of Allah,

أَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ كُنْتَ نُوراً فِي الْأَصْلابِ الشَّامِخَةِ ،
Ashhadu annaka kunta nūran fī al-aṣlāb ash-shāmikhah,
I bear witness that you were a light in the lofty loins,

وَالْأَرْحامِ الْمُطَهَّرَةِ ،
Wa al-arḥām al-muṭahharah,
And the pure wombs,

لَمْ تُنَجِّسْكَ الْجاهِلِيَّةُ بِأَنْجاسِها ،
Lam tunajjisk al-jāhiliyyah bi-anjāsihā,
The ignorance of the pre-Islamic era did not pollute you with its impurities,

وَلَمْ تُلْبِسْكَ مِنْ مُدلَهِمَّاتُ ثِيابِها ،
Wa lam tulbiska min mudlahimmāt thiyābihā,
And did not cover you with its dark garments,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ مِنْ دَعائِمِ الدِّينِ ،
Wa ashhadu annaka min daʿā’im ad-dīn,
I bear witness that you are among the pillars of religion,

وَأَرْكانِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ ،
Wa arkān al-muslimīn,
And the foundations of the Muslims,

وَمَعْقِلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ،
Wa maʿqil al-mu’minīn,
And the stronghold of the believers,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ الاْءِمامُ الْبَرُّ التَّقِيُّ الرَّضِيُّ الزَّكِيُّ الْهادِي الْمَهْدِيُّ ،
Wa ashhadu annaka al-imām al-barr at-taqī ar-raḍī az-zakī al-hādī al-mahdī,
I bear witness that you are the virtuous, pious, satisfied, pure, guiding, and rightly guided Imam,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ الْأَئِمَّةَ مِنْ وُلْدِكَ كَلِمَةُ التَّقْوى ،
Wa ashhadu ann al-a’immah min wuldika kalimatu at-taqwā,
I bear witness that the Imams from your descendants are the word of piety,

وَأَعْلامُ الْهُدى ،
Wa aʿlām al-hudā,
And the signs of guidance,

وَالْعُرْوَةُ الْوُثْقى ،
Wa al-ʿurwatu al-wuthqā,
And the firmest handle,

وَالْحُجَّةُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الدُّنْيا ،
Wa al-ḥujjatu ʿalā ahl ad-dunyā,
And the proof over the people of the world,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَ نِّي بِكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ ،
Wa ashhadu annī bikum mu’min,
I bear witness that I believe in you,

وَبِإِيابِكُمْ مُوقِنٌ بِشَرايِعِ دِينِي ،
Wa bi-iyābikum mūqin bi-sharāyiʿ dīnī,
And I am certain of your return in the laws of my religion,

وَخَواتِيمِ عَمَلِي ،
Wa khawātīm ʿamalī,
And the end of my actions,

وَقَلْبِي لِقَلْبِكُمْ سِلْمٌ ،
Wa qalbī li-qalbikum silm,
And my heart is at peace with your hearts,

وَ أَمْرِي لِأَمْرِكُمْ مُتَّبِعٌ ،
Wa amrī li-amrikum muttabiʿ,
And my affairs follow your orders,

وَنُصْرَتِي لَكُمْ مُعَدَّةٌ حَتَّى يَأْذَنَ اللّهُ لَكُمْ ،
Wa nuṣratī lakum muʿaddah ḥattā ya’dhan Allāh lakum,
And my support is prepared for you until Allah permits you,

فَمَعَكُمْ مَعَكُمْ لاَ مَعَ عَدُّوِكُمْ ،
Fa maʿakum maʿakum lā maʿa ʿaduwwikum,
So with you, with you, not with your enemy,

صَلَواتُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَى أَرْواحِكُمْ ،
Ṣalawātu Allāh ʿalaykum wa ʿalā arwāḥikum,
Blessings of Allah be upon you and upon your spirits,

وَ أَجْسادِكُمْ وَشاهِدِكُمْ وَغَائِبِكُمْ ،
Wa ajṣādikum wa shāhidikum wa ghā’ibikum,
And upon your bodies, present and absent,

وَظَاهِرِكُمْ وَبَاطِنِكُمْ آمِينَ رَبَّ الْعالَمِينَ
Wa ẓāhirikum wa bāṭinikum, Āmīn Rabb al-ʿālamīn
And upon your apparent and hidden, Amen, Lord of the worlds.

As-Sayyid Raḍī ad-Dīn Ibn Ṭāwūs said: "It has been narrated that this ziyārah has a specific farewell, which is that you stand in front of the shrine and say:
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ عَلِيٍّ الْمُرْتَضَى وَصِيِّ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn ʿAlī al-Murtaḍā waṣī Rasūl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O son of ʿAlī al-Murtaḍā, the successor of the Messenger of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِينَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn Fāṭimah az-Zahrā’ sayyidah nisā’ al-ʿālamīn,
Peace be upon you, O son of Fāṭimah az-Zahrā’, the mistress of the women of the worlds,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ الْحَسَنِ الزَّكِيِّ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā wāriṭ al-Ḥasan az-Zakī,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of al-Ḥasan the Pure,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّهِ فِي أَرْضِهِ وَشَاهِدَهُ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ḥujjat Allāh fī arḍih wa shāhidahu ʿalā khalqih,
Peace be upon you, O proof of Allah on His earth and witness over His creation,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللّهِ الشَّهِيدُ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā Abā ʿAbdillāh ash-Shahīd,
Peace be upon you, O Abā ʿAbdillāh the Martyr,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ وَابْنَ مَوْلاَيَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā mawlāya wa ibn mawlāya,
Peace be upon you, O my master and son of my master,

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ أَقَمْتَ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ ،
Ashhadu annaka qad aqamta aṣ-ṣalāh wa ātayta az-zakāh,
I bear witness that you established the prayer and gave the zakat,

وَأَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ،
Wa amarta bi-l-maʿrūf wa nahayta ʿan al-munkar,
And enjoined what is right and forbade what is wrong,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ حَتَّى أَتَاكَ الْيَقِينُ ،
Wa jāhadta fī sabīl Allāh ḥattā atāka al-yaqīn,
And strove in the way of Allah until certainty (death) came to you,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكَ ،
Wa ashhadu annaka ʿalā bayyinah min rabbik,
I bear witness that you are upon clarity from your Lord,

أَتَيْتُكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ زَائِراً وَافِداً رَاغِباً مُقِرّاً لَكَ بِالذُّنُوبِ ،
Ataytuka yā mawlāya zā’iran wāfidan rāghiban muqirran laka bi-dh-dhunūb,
I have come to you, O my master, visiting, seeking refuge, and confessing my sins to you,

هَارِباً إِلَيْكَ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا لِتَشْفَعَ لِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
Hāriban ilayka min al-khaṭāyā li-tashfaʿa lī ʿinda rabbik yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,
Fleeing to you from my mistakes so that you intercede for me with your Lord, O son of the Messenger of Allah,

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْكَ حَيّاَ وَمَيِّتاً ،
Ṣallā Allāh ʿalayka ḥayyan wa mayyitan,
May Allah’s blessings be upon you, alive and dead,

فَإِنَّ لَكَ عِنْدَ اللّهِ مَقَاماً مَعْلُوماً ،
Fa inna laka ʿinda Allāh maqāman maʿlūman,
For you have a known position with Allah,

وَشَفَاعَةً مَقْبُولَةً ،
Wa shafāʿatan maqbūlah,
And an accepted intercession,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh man ẓalamak,
May Allah curse those who wronged you,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَغَصَبَ حَقَّكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh man ḥaramak wa ghaṣaba ḥaqqak,
May Allah curse those who deprived you and usurped your right,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh man qatalak,
May Allah curse those who killed you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ خَذَلَكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man khadhalak,
And may Allah curse those who abandoned you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ دَعَاكَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْكَ وَلَمْ يُعِنْكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man daʿāk fa-lam yujibka wa lam yuʿink,
And may Allah curse those who called you but did not answer you and did not assist you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ مَنَعَكَ مِنْ حَرَمِ اللّهِ وَحَرَمِ رَسُولِهِ وَحَرَمِ أَبِيكَ وَأَخِيكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man manaʿak min ḥaram Allāh wa ḥaram Rasūlihi wa ḥaram abīka wa akhīka,
And may Allah curse those who prevented you from the sanctuaries of Allah, His Messenger, your father, and your brother,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ مَنَعَكَ مِنْ شُرْبِ مَاءِ الْفُرَاتِ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man manaʿak min shurb mā’ al-Furāt,
And may Allah curse those who prevented you from drinking the water of the Euphrates,

لَعْناً كَثِيراً يَتْبَعُ بَعْضُهَا بَعْضاً .
Laʿnan kathīran yatbaʿu baʿḍuhā baʿḍan.
A curse that follows one after another.

اَللّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّموَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ،
Allāhumma fāṭir as-samāwāt wa al-arḍ,
O Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth,

عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ،
ʿĀlim al-ghayb wa ash-shahādah,
Knower of the unseen and the seen,

أَنْتَ تَحْكُمُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ ،
Anta taḥkumu bayna ʿibādika fī-mā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn,
You judge between Your servants concerning that in which they used to differ,

وَسَيَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَيَّ مُنْقَلَبٍ يَنْقَلِبُونَ .
Wa sa-yaʿlamu alladhīna ẓalamū ayy munqalabin yanqalibūn.
And those who have wronged will know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.

اَللّهُمَّ لاَ تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِهِ ،
Allāhumma lā tajʿalhu ākhir al-ʿahd min ziyāratihi,
O Allah, do not make this my last visit to him,

وَارْزُقْنِيهِ أَبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَحَيِيتُ يَا رَبِّ ،
Wa arzuqnīhi abadan mā baqītu wa ḥayītu yā Rabb,
And grant me this forever as long as I live, O Lord,

وَإِنْ مِتُّ فَاحْشُرْنِي فِي زُمْرَتِهِ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحمِينَ
Wa in mittu fa-ḥshurnī fī zumratihi yā Arḥam ar-Rāḥimīn
And if I die, then gather me in his group, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

ʿAṭā’ said: "I was with Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh on the twentieth of Ṣafar, and when we reached al-Ghāḍiriyyah, he washed in its stream and wore a clean shirt he had with him. Then he said to me: Do you have any perfume, O ʿAṭā’? I said: I have saʿd, so he applied it to his head and his entire body, then he walked barefoot until he stood at the head of al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon him), and he said 'Allāhu Akbar' three times, then he fell unconscious. When he regained consciousness, I heard him say:
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا آلَ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā āl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O family of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا صَفْوَةَ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā ṣafwat Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O chosen ones of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا خِيَرَةَ اللّهِ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā khīrat Allāh min khalqih,
Peace be upon you, O best of Allah’s creation,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا سادَةَ السَّاداتِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā sādat as-sādāt,
Peace be upon you, O masters of the masters,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا لُيُوثَ الْغاباتِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā luyūth al-ghābāt,
Peace be upon you, O lions of the forests,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا سَفِينَةَ النَّجاةِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā safīnat an-najāh,
Peace be upon you, O ship of salvation,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبا عَبْدِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā Abā ʿAbdillāh,
Peace be upon you, O Abā ʿAbdillāh,

وَرَحْمَةُ اللّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ .
Wa raḥmat Allāh wa barakātuh.
And the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِلْمِ الْأَ نْبِياءِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa ʿilm al-anbiyā’,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of the knowledge of the prophets,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ آدَمَ صَفْوَةِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa Ādam ṣafwat Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Adam, the chosen one of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ نُوحٍ نَبِيِّ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa Nūḥ nabī Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Noah, the prophet of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ إِبْراهِيمَ خَلِيلِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa Ibrāhīm khalīl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Abraham, the friend of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ إِسْماعِيلَ ذَبِيحِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa Ismāʿīl dhabīḥ Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Ishmael, the sacrifice of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ مُوسى كَلِيمِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa Mūsā kalīm Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Moses, the one who spoke to Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ عِيسى رُوحِ اللّهِ .
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā wāriṭa ʿĪsā rūḥ Allāh.
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of Jesus, the spirit of Allah.

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُصْطَفى ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā ibn Muḥammad al-Muṣṭafā,
Peace be upon you, O son of Muhammad, the chosen one,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ عَلِيٍّ الْمُرْتَضى ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā ibn ʿAlī al-Murtaḍā,
Peace be upon you, O son of ʿAlī, the chosen one,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ فاطِمَةَ الزَّهْراءِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā ibn Fāṭimah az-Zahrā’,
Peace be upon you, O son of Fāṭimah, the radiant one,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا شَهِيدُ يَا ابْنَ الشَّهِيدِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā shahīd yā ibn ash-shahīd,
Peace be upon you, O martyr, son of the martyr,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا قَتِيلُ ابْنَ الْقَتِيلِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā qatīl ibn al-qatīl,
Peace be upon you, O one slain, son of the one slain,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَ لِيَّ اللّهِ وَابْنَ وَ لِيِّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā walī Allāh wa ibn walīyihi,
Peace be upon you, O friend of Allah, son of His friend,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّهِ وَابْنَ حُجَّتِهِ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ .
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā ḥujjat Allāh wa ibn ḥujjatihi ʿalā khalqih.
Peace be upon you, O proof of Allah, son of His proof over His creation.

أَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ قَدْ أَقَمْتَ الصَّلاةَ ،
Ashhadu annaka qad aqamta aṣ-ṣalāh,
I bear witness that you established the prayer,

وَآتَيْتَ الزَّكاةَ ،
Wa ātayta az-zakāh,
And gave the zakat,

وَأَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ،
Wa amarta bi-l-maʿrūf,
And enjoined what is right,

وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ،
Wa nahayta ʿan al-munkar,
And forbade what is wrong,

وَبَرَرْتَ والِدَيْكَ ،
Wa bararta wālidaka,
And honored your parents,

وَجاهَدْتَ عَدُوَّكَ .
Wa jāhadta ʿaduwwak.
And fought your enemy.

أَشْهَدُ أَ نَّكَ تَسْمَعُ الْكَلامَ ،
Ashhadu annaka tasmaʿu al-kalām,
I bear witness that you hear the words,

وَتَرُدُّ الْجَوابَ ،
Wa taruddu al-jawāb,
And respond to the greetings,

وَأَ نَّكَ حَبِيبُ اللّهِ وَخَلِيلُهُ ،
Wa annaka ḥabīb Allāh wa khalīluhu,
And you are the beloved and friend of Allah,

وَنَجِيبُهُ وَصَفِيُّهُ وَابْنُ صَفِيِّهِ ،
Wa najībuhu wa ṣafīyuhu wa ibn ṣafīyihi,
And His chosen one and the son of His chosen one,

زُرْتُكَ مُشْتاقاً ،
Zurtuka mushtāqan,
I visited you out of longing,

فَكُنْ لِي شَفِيعاً إِلَى اللّهِ .
Fakūn lī shafīʿan ilā Allāh.
So be my intercessor with Allah.

يَا سَيِّدِي ،
Yā sayyidī,
O my master,

أَسْتَشْفِعُ إِلَى اللّهِ بِجَدِّكَ سَيِّدِ النَّبِيِّينَ ،
Astashfiʿu ilā Allāh bi-jaddika sayyid an-nabiyyīn,
I seek intercession with Allah through your grandfather, the master of the prophets,

وَبِأَبِيكَ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّينَ ،
Wa bi-abīka sayyid al-waṣiyyīn,
And your father, the master of the successors,

وَبِأُمِّكَ فاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِساءِ الْعالَمِينَ ،
Wa bi-ummika Fāṭimah sayyidah nisā’ al-ʿālamīn,
And your mother, Fāṭimah, the mistress of the women of the worlds,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ قاتِلِيكَ وَظَالِمِيكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh qātīlik wa ẓālimik,
May Allah curse those who killed you and wronged you,

وشَانِئِيكَ وَمُبْغِضِيكَ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالاْخِرِينَ .
Wa shāni’īk wa mubghiḍīk min al-awwalīn wa al-ākhirīn.
And those who hated and envied you from the first to the last.

Then he leaned over the grave and rubbed his cheeks against it and prayed four rak'ahs, then he came to the grave of ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn (peace be upon them), and said:
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلايَ وَابْنَ مَوْلايَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā mawlāya wa ibn mawlāya,
Peace be upon you, O my master and son of my master,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ قاتِلِيكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh qātīlik,
May Allah curse those who killed you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ ظالِمِيكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh ẓālimīk,
And may Allah curse those who wronged you,

أَ تَقَرَّبُ إِلَى اللّهِ بِمَحَبَّتِكُمْ ،
At-taqarrub ilā Allāh bi-maḥabbatikum,
I seek closeness to Allah through my love for you,

وَأَبْرَأُ إِلَى اللّهِ مِنْ عَدُوِّكُمْ .
Wa abra’u ilā Allāh min ʿaduwwikum.
And disassociate myself from your enemies before Allah.

Then he kissed it and prayed two rak'ahs, and turned to the graves of the martyrs, and said:
السَّلامُ عَلَى الْأَرْواحِ الْمُنِيخَةِ بِقَبْرِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللّهِ الْحُسَيْنِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalā al-arwāḥ al-munīkhat bi-qabr Abī ʿAbdillāh al-Ḥusayn,
Peace be upon the souls who are at the grave of Abī ʿAbdillāh al-Ḥusayn,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا شِيعَةَ اللّه وَشِيعَةَ رَسُولِهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā shīʿat Allāh wa shīʿat Rasūlihi,
Peace be upon you, O followers of Allah and followers of His Messenger,

وَشِيعَةَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ،
Wa shīʿat Amīr al-Mu’minīn,
And followers of the Commander of the Faithful,

وَالْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ ،
Wa al-Ḥasan wa al-Ḥusayn,
And followers of al-Ḥasan and al-Ḥusayn,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكمُ يَا طَاهِرِونَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā ṭāhirūn,
Peace be upon you, O pure ones,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا مَهْدِيُّونَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā mahdīyūn,
Peace be upon you, O guided ones,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يَا أَبْرارَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum yā abrār,
Peace be upon you, O righteous ones,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَى مَلائِكَةِ اللّهِ الْحَافِّينَ بِقُبُورِكُمْ ،
As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa ʿalā malā’ikat Allāh al-ḥāffīn bi-qubūrikum,
Peace be upon you and upon the angels of Allah surrounding your graves,

جَمَعَنِي اللّهُ وَ إِيَّاكُمْ فِي مُسْتَقَرِّ رَحْمَتِهِ تَحْتَ عَرْشِهِ .
Jamaʿanī Allāh wa iyyākum fī mustaqarr raḥmatihi taḥta ʿarshih.
May Allah gather me and you in His mercy under His throne.

Then he came to the grave of al-ʿAbbās, son of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon them), stood by it and said:
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا القاسِمِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā Abā al-Qāsim,
Peace be upon you, O father of al-Qāsim,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا عَبَّاسَ بن عَلِيٍّ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā ʿAbbās ibn ʿAlī,
Peace be upon you, O ʿAbbās, son of ʿAlī,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayk yā ibn Amīr al-Mu’minīn,
Peace be upon you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful,

أَشْهَدُ لَقَدْ بَالَغْتَ فِي النَّصِيحَةِ ،
Ashhadu laqad bālaghta fī an-naṣīḥah,
I bear witness that you exceeded in giving advice,

وَأَدَّيْتَ الأمَانَةَ ،
Wa addayta al-amānah,
And fulfilled the trust,

وَجَاهَدْتَ عَدُوَّكَ وَعَدُوَّ أَخِيكَ ،
Wa jāhadta ʿaduwwak wa ʿaduwwa akhīk,
And fought your enemy and the enemy of your brother,

فَصَلَواتُ اللّهِ عَلى رُوحِكَ الطَّيِّبَةِ ،
Fa-ṣalawātu Allāh ʿalā rūḥika aṭ-ṭayyibah,
So blessings of Allah be upon your pure soul,

وَجَزَاكَ اللّهُ مِنْ أَخٍ خَيْراً .
Wa jazāk Allāh min akhin khayran.
And may Allah reward you with the best of rewards from a brother.

Then he prayed two rak'ahs, supplicated to Allah, and left.



Farewell Ziarat in Iqbal Aamal
There is a special farewell supplication for this pilgrimage supplication.
You must stand facing the shrine and say the following,
As-Sayyid Raḍī ad-Dīn Ibn Ṭāwūs said: "It has been narrated that this ziyārah has a specific farewell, which is that you stand in front of the shrine and say:
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ عَلِيٍّ الْمُرْتَضَى وَصِيِّ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn ʿAlī al-Murtaḍā waṣī Rasūl Allāh,
Peace be upon you, O son of ʿAlī al-Murtaḍā, the successor of the Messenger of Allah,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاءِ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِينَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ibn Fāṭimah az-Zahrā’ sayyidah nisā’ al-ʿālamīn,
Peace be upon you, O son of Fāṭimah az-Zahrā’, the mistress of the women of the worlds,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا وَارِثَ الْحَسَنِ الزَّكِيِّ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā wāriṭ al-Ḥasan az-Zakī,
Peace be upon you, O inheritor of al-Ḥasan the Pure,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّهِ فِي أَرْضِهِ وَشَاهِدَهُ عَلَى خَلْقِهِ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā ḥujjat Allāh fī arḍih wa shāhidahu ʿalā khalqih,
Peace be upon you, O proof of Allah on His earth and witness over His creation,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللّهِ الشَّهِيدُ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā Abā ʿAbdillāh ash-Shahīd,
Peace be upon you, O Abā ʿAbdillāh the Martyr,

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ وَابْنَ مَوْلاَيَ ،
As-salāmu ʿalayka yā mawlāya wa ibn mawlāya,
Peace be upon you, O my master and son of my master,

أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ قَدْ أَقَمْتَ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ ،
Ashhadu annaka qad aqamta aṣ-ṣalāh wa ātayta az-zakāh,
I bear witness that you established the prayer and gave the zakat,

وَأَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ ،
Wa amarta bi-l-maʿrūf wa nahayta ʿan al-munkar,
And enjoined what is right and forbade what is wrong,

وَجَاهَدْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ حَتَّى أَتَاكَ الْيَقِينُ ،
Wa jāhadta fī sabīl Allāh ḥattā atāka al-yaqīn,
And strove in the way of Allah until certainty (death) came to you,

وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكَ ،
Wa ashhadu annaka ʿalā bayyinah min rabbik,
I bear witness that you are upon clarity from your Lord,

أَتَيْتُكَ يَا مَوْلاَيَ زَائِراً وَافِداً رَاغِباً مُقِرّاً لَكَ بِالذُّنُوبِ ،
Ataytuka yā mawlāya zā’iran wāfidan rāghiban muqirran laka bi-dh-dhunūb,
I have come to you, O my master, visiting, seeking refuge, and confessing my sins to you,

هَارِباً إِلَيْكَ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا لِتَشْفَعَ لِي عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ يَابْنَ رَسُولِ اللّهِ ،
Hāriban ilayka min al-khaṭāyā li-tashfaʿa lī ʿinda rabbik yā ibn Rasūl Allāh,
Fleeing to you from my mistakes so that you intercede for me with your Lord, O son of the Messenger of Allah,

صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْكَ حَيّاَ وَمَيِّتاً ،
Ṣallā Allāh ʿalayka ḥayyan wa mayyitan,
May Allah’s blessings be upon you, alive and dead,

فَإِنَّ لَكَ عِنْدَ اللّهِ مَقَاماً مَعْلُوماً ،
Fa inna laka ʿinda Allāh maqāman maʿlūman,
For you have a known position with Allah,

وَشَفَاعَةً مَقْبُولَةً ،
Wa shafāʿatan maqbūlah,
And an accepted intercession,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ ظَلَمَكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh man ẓalamak,
May Allah curse those who wronged you,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ حَرَمَكَ وَغَصَبَ حَقَّكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh man ḥaramak wa ghaṣaba ḥaqqak,
May Allah curse those who deprived you and usurped your right,

لَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ قَتَلَكَ ،
Laʿana Allāh man qatalak,
May Allah curse those who killed you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ خَذَلَكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man khadhalak,
And may Allah curse those who abandoned you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ دَعَاكَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْكَ وَلَمْ يُعِنْكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man daʿāk fa-lam yujibka wa lam yuʿink,
And may Allah curse those who called you but did not answer you and did not assist you,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ مَنَعَكَ مِنْ حَرَمِ اللّهِ وَحَرَمِ رَسُولِهِ وَحَرَمِ أَبِيكَ وَأَخِيكَ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man manaʿak min ḥaram Allāh wa ḥaram Rasūlihi wa ḥaram abīka wa akhīka,
And may Allah curse those who prevented you from the sanctuaries of Allah, His Messenger, your father, and your brother,

وَلَعَنَ اللّهُ مَنْ مَنَعَكَ مِنْ شُرْبِ مَاءِ الْفُرَاتِ ،
Wa laʿana Allāh man manaʿak min shurb mā’ al-Furāt,
And may Allah curse those who prevented you from drinking the water of the Euphrates,

لَعْناً كَثِيراً يَتْبَعُ بَعْضُهَا بَعْضاً .
Laʿnan kathīran yatbaʿu baʿḍuhā baʿḍan.
A curse that follows one after another.

اَللّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّموَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ ،
Allāhumma fāṭir as-samāwāt wa al-arḍ,
O Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth,

عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ،
ʿĀlim al-ghayb wa ash-shahādah,
Knower of the unseen and the seen,

أَنْتَ تَحْكُمُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِكَ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ ،
Anta taḥkumu bayna ʿibādika fī-mā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn,
You judge between Your servants concerning that in which they used to differ,

وَسَيَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَيَّ مُنْقَلَبٍ يَنْقَلِبُونَ .
Wa sa-yaʿlamu alladhīna ẓalamū ayy munqalabin yanqalibūn.
And those who have wronged will know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.

اَللّهُمَّ لاَ تَجْعَلْهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنْ زِيَارَتِهِ ،
Allāhumma lā tajʿalhu ākhir al-ʿahd min ziyāratihi,
O Allah, do not make this my last visit to him,

وَارْزُقْنِيهِ أَبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَحَيِيتُ يَا رَبِّ ،
Wa arzuqnīhi abadan mā baqītu wa ḥayītu yā Rabb,
And grant me this forever as long as I live, O Lord,

وَإِنْ مِتُّ فَاحْشُرْنِي فِي زُمْرَتِهِ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحمِينَ
Wa in mittu fa-ḥshurnī fī zumratihi yā Arḥam ar-Rāḥimīn
And if I die, then gather me in his group, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
