بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
bismillahi alrrahmani alrrahimi
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful
إِلٰهِي مَنْ ذَا ٱلَّذِي ذَاقَ حَلاوَةَ مَحَبَّتِكَ فَرَامَ مِنْكَ بَدَلاً
ilahi man dhalladhi dhaqa halawata mahabbatika farama minka badalan
My God, who can have tasted the sweetness of Your love, then wanted another in place of You?
وَمَنْ ذَا ٱلَّذِي أَنِسَ بِقُرْبِكَ فَٱبْتَغَىٰ عَنْكَ حِوَلاً
wa man dhalladhi anisa biqurbika fabtagha `anka hiwalan
Who can have become intimate with Your nearness, then sought removal from You?
إِلٰهِي فَٱجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنِ ٱصْطَفَيْتَهُ لِقُرْبِكَ وَوِلايَتِكَ
ilahi faj`alna mimman istafaytahu liqurbika wa wilayatika
My God, place us with him whom You have chosen for Your nearness and Your friendship,
وَأَخْلَصْتَهُ لِوُدِّكَ وَمَحَبَّتِكَ
wa akhlastahu liwuddika wa mahabbatika
purified through Your affection and Your love,
وَشَوَّقْتَهُ إِلَىٰ لِقَائِكَ
wa shawwaqtahu ila liqa'ika
given yearning for the meeting with You,
وَرَضَّيْتَهُ بِقَضَائِكَ
wa raddaytahu biqada'ika
made pleased with Your decree,
وَمَنَحْتَهُ بِٱلنَّظَرِ إِلَىٰ وَجْهِكَ
wa manahtahu binnazari ila wajhika
granted gazing upon thy face,
wa habawtahu biridaka
shown the favor of Your good pleasure,
وَأَعَذْتَهُ مِنْ هَجْرِكَ وَقِلاكَ
wa a`adhtahu min hajrika wa qilaka
given refuge from separation from You and Your loathing,
وَبَوَّأْتَهُ مَقْعَدَ ٱلصِّدْقِ فِي جِوَارِكَ
wa bawwa'tahu maq`ada assidqi fi jiwarika
settled in a sure sitting place in Your neighborhood,
وَخَصَصْتَهُ بِمَعْرِفَتِكَ
wa khasastahu bima`rifatika
singled out for true knowledge of You,
وَأَهَّلْتَهُ لِعِبَادَتِكَ
wa ahhaltahu li`ibadatika
made worthy for worship of You,
وَهَيَّمْتَ قَلْبَهُ لإِرَادَتِكَ
wa hayyamta qalbahu li-iradatika
whose heart You have captivated with Your will,
وَٱجْتَبَيْتَهُ لِمُشَاهَدَتِكَ
wajtabaytahu limushahadatika
whom You have picked for contemplating You,
وَأَخْلَيْتَ وَجْهَهُ لَكَ
wa akhlayta wajhahu laka
whose look You have made empty for You,
وَفَرَّغْتَ فُؤَادَهُ لِحُبِّكَ
wa farraghta fu'adahu lihubbika
whose breast You have freed for Your love,
وَرَغَّبْتَهُ فِيمَا عِنْدَكَ
wa raghghabtahu fima `indaka
whom You have made desirous of what is with You,
wa alhamtahu dhikraka
inspired with Your remembrance,
wa awza`tahu shukraka
allotted thanksgiving to You,
wa shaghaltahu bita`atika
occupied with obeying You,
وَصَيَّرْتَهُ مِنْ صَالِحِي بَرِيَّتِكَ
wa sayyartahu min salihi bariyyatika
turned into one of Your righteous creatures,
وَٱخْتَرْتَهُ لِمُنَاجَاتِكَ
wakhtartahu limunajatika
chosen for whispered prayer to You,
وَقَطَعْتَ عَنْهُ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ يَقْطَعُهُ عَنْكَ
wa qata`ta `anhu kulla shay'in yaqta`uhu `anka
and from whom You have cut off all things which cut him off from You!
اَللَّهُمَّ ٱجْعَلْنَا مِمَّنْ دَأْبُهُمُ ٱلاِرْتِيَاحُ إِلَيْكَ وَٱلْحَنِينُ
allahumma ij`alna mimman da'buhum alirtiyahu ilayka walhaninu
O Allah, place us among those whose habit is rejoicing in You and yearning for You,
وَدَهْرُهُمُ ٱلزَّفْرَةُ وَٱلأَنِينُ
wa dahruhum azzafratu wal-aninu
whose time is spent in sighing and moaning!
جِبَاهُهُمْ سَاجِدَةٌ لِعَظَمَتِكَ
jibahuhum sajidatun li`azamatika
Their foreheads are bowed down before Your mightiness,
وَعُيُونُهُمْ سَاهِرَةٌ فِي خِدْمَتِكَ
wa `uyunuhum sahiratun fi khidmatika
their eyes wakeful in Your service,
وَدُمُوعُهُمْ سَائِلَةٌ مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ
wa dumu`uhum sa'ilatun min khashyatika
their tears flowing in dread of You,
وَقُلُوبُهُمْ مُتَعَلِّقَةٌ بِمَحَبَّتِكَ
wa qulubuhum muta`alliqatun bimahabbatika
their hearts fixed upon Your love,
وَأَفْئِدَتُهُمْ مُنْخَلِعَةٌ مِنْ مَهَابَتِكَ
wa af'idatuhum munkhali`atun min mahabatika
their cores shaken with awe of You.
يَا مَنْ أَنْوَارُ قُدْسِهِ لأَبْصَارِ مُحِبِّيهِ رَائِقَةٌ
ya man anwaru qudsihi li-absari muhibbihi ra'iqatun
O He the lights of whose holiness induce wonder in the eyes of His lovers,
وَسُبُحَاتُ وَجْهِهِ لِقُلُوبِ عَارِفِيهِ شَائِقَةٌ
wa subuhatu wajhihi liqulubi `arifihi sha'iqatun
the glories of whose face arouse the longing of the hearts of His knowers!
يَا مُنَىٰ قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُشْتَاقِينَ
ya muna qulubi almushtaqina
O Furthest Wish of the hearts of the yearners!
وَيَا غَايَةَ آمَالِ ٱلْمُحِبِّينَ
wa ya ghayata amali almuhibbina
O Utmost Limit of the hopes of the lovers!
أَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ
as'aluka hubbaka wa hubba man yuhibbuka
I ask from You love for You, love for those who love You,
وَحُبَّ كُلِّ عَمَلٍ يُوصِلُنِي إِلىٰ قُرْبِكَ
wa hubba kulli `amalin yusiluni ila qurbika
love for every work which will join me to Your nearness,
وَأَنْ تَجْعَلَكَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا سِوَاكَ
wa an taj`alaka ahabba ilayya mimma siwaka
and that You make Yourself more beloved to me than anything other than You
وَأَنْ تَجْعَلَ حُبِّي إِيَّاكَ قَائِداً إِلَىٰ رِضْوَانِكَ
wa an taj`ala hubbi iyyaka qa'idan ila ridwanika
and make my love for You lead to Your good pleasure,
وَشَوْقِي إِلَيْكَ ذَائِداً عَنْ عِصْيَانِكَ
wa shawqi ilayka dha'idan `an `isyanika
and my yearning for You protect against disobeying You!
وَٱمْنُنْ بِٱلنَّظَرِ إِلَيْكَ عَلَيَّ
wamnum binnazari ilayka `alayya
Oblige me by allowing me to gaze upon You,
وَٱنْظُرْ بِعَيْنِ ٱلْوُدِّ وَٱلْعَطْفِ إِلَيَّ
wanzur bi`ayni alwuddi wal`atfi ilayya
gaze upon me with the eye of affection and tenderness,
وَلاَ تَصْرِفْ عَنِّي وَجْهَكَ
wa la tasrif `anni wajhaka
turn not Your face away from me,
وَٱجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِ ٱلإِسْعَادِ وَٱلْحُظْوَةِ عِنْدَكَ
waj`alni min ahli al-is`adi walhuzwati `indaka
and make me one of the people of happiness with You and favored position!
يَا مُجِيبُ يَا أَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
ya mujibu ya arhama arrahimina
O Responder, O Most Merciful of the merciful!
