Supplication 140- Day 17 of the month from Al-Sahifa e Alaviya
بِسْمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
bismillahi alrrahmani alrrahimi
In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ الْمُفَرِّجُ عَنْ كُلِّ مَكْرُوبٍ
laa elaaha illaa antal mofarrejo a’n kulle akroobin,
There is no god but You, Dispeller of every grief,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ عِزُّ كُلِّ ذَليلٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta i’zzo kulle zaleelin,
There is no god but You, Strength of every humbled one,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ غِنى كُلِّ فَقيرٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta ghenaa kulle faqeerin,
There is no god but You, Sufficer of every poor person,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ قُوَّةُ كُلِّ ضَعيفٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta quwwato kulle zae’efin,
There is no god but You, Strength of every weak,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كاشِفُ كُلِّ كُرْبَةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta kaashefo kulle kurbatin,
There is no god but You, Remover of every distress,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ قاضي كُلِّ حاجَةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta qaazeyo kulle haajatin,
There is no god but You, Fulfiller of every need,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ وَلِىُّ كُلِّ حَسَنَةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta waliyyo kulle hasanatin,
There is no god buy You, Master of every good,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ مُنْتَهى كُلِّ رَغْبَةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta muntahaa kulle raghbatin,
There is no god but You, Object of every desire,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ دافِعُ كُلِّ بَلِيَّةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta daafe-o’ kulle baliyyatin,
There is no god but You, Repeller of every affliction,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ عالِمُ كُلِّ خَفِيَّةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta a’alemo kulle khafiyyatin,
There is no god but You, Knower of every hidden thing,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ عالِمُ كُلِّ سَريرَةٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta a’alemo kulle sareeratin,
There is no god but You, Knower of every secret,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ شاهِدُ كُلِّ نَجْوى
laa elaaha illaa anta shaahedo kulle najwaa,
There is no god but You, Witnesser of every secret discourse,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كاشِفُ كُلِّ بَلْوى
laa elaaha illaa anta kaashefo kulle balwaa,
There is no god but You, Remover of every affliction,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ خاضِعٌ لَكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shayin khaaze-u’n laka,
There is no god but You, everything is subject to You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ داخِرٌ لَكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shay-in daakherun laka,
There is no god but You, everything is abject before You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ انْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ مُشْفِقٌ مِنْكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shay-in mushfequn minka,
There is no god but You, everything is fearful of You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ ضارِعٌ اِلَيْكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shay-in zaare-u’n elayka,
There is no god but You, everything is submitted to You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ راغِبٌ اِلَيْكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shayin raaghebun elayka,
There is no god but You, everything supplicates You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ راهِبٌ مِنْكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shay-in raahebun minka,
There is no god but You, everything is afraid of You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ قائِمٌ بِكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shay-in qaaaemun beka,
There is no god but You, everything is sustained by You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ مَصيرُهُ اِلَيْكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shayin maseerohu elayka,
There is no god but You, everything returns to You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ فَقيرٌ اِلَيْكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta kullo shay-in faqeerun elayka,
There is no god but You, everything is needy of You;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لا شَريكَ لَكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta wahdaka laa shareeka laka,
There is no god but You alone, no partner have You,
elaahan waahedan ahadan,
One, Sole;
لَكَ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ
lakal mulko wa lakal hamdo,
Yours is the kingdom and Yours is the praise (Ref. 64:1),
تُحْيي وَ تُميتُ وَ اَنْتَ حَىٌّ لا تَمُوتُ
tohyee wa tomeeto, wa anta hayyun laa tamoot,
You give life and cause death (Ref. 3:156), and You are the Ever-living who does not die (Ref. 25:58),
بِيَدِكَ الْخَيْرُ اِنَّكَ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْ ءٍ قَديرٌ
beyadekal khayro innaka a’laa kulle shay-in qadeer.
“...In Your hand is the good and You are powerful over everything’’ (3:26)
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لا شَريكَ لَكَ
laa elaaha illaa anta wahdaka laa shareeka laka,
There is no god but You alone, no partner have You,
ahadan samadan
One, Eternal Refuge,
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَ لَمْ يُولَدْ وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُواً اَحَدٌ
lam talid wa lam yoolad, wa lam yakun laka kofowan ahadun,
You do not beget, nor are You begotten (Ref. 112:1-3), “and there is no one like Him” (112:4);
وَ لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ صاحِبَةً وَ لا وَلَداً
wa lam tattakhiz saahebatan wa laa waladan,
And He has not taken to Himself “...either a consort or a son” (72:3)
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ قَبْلَ كُلِّ شَيْ ءٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta qabla kulle shay-in,
There is no god but You, before everything,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ بَعْدَ كُلِّ شَيْ ءٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta ba’da kulle shay-in,
There is no god but You, after everything,
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ تَبْقى رَبَّنا وَ يَفْنى كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ
laa elaaha illaa anta yabqaa rabbonaa wa yafnaa kullo shay-in,
There is no god but You, You abide, Our Lord, and everything else perishes :
الدَّائِمُ الَّذي لا زَوالَ لَكَ
ad-daaemul lazee laa zawaala laka,
the Everlasting Unceasing are You.
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ الْحَىُّ الْقَيُّومُ
laa elaaha illaa antal hayyul qayyoomo
There is no god but You, the Ever-living, the Self-subsistent,
لاتَأْخُذُكَ سِنَةٌ وَ لا نَوْمٌ قائِماً بِالْقِسْطِ
laa taakhozoka senatunw wa laa nawm, qaa-eman bil-qist,
slumber seizes You not, neither sleep (Ref. 2:255) “...maintainer of equity...” (3:18),
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ الْعَزيزُ الْحَكيمُ الْعَدْلُ
laa elaaha illaa antal a’zeezul hakeemul a’dlo,
There is no god but You, the Mighty, the Wise, the Just.
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اَنْتَ بَديعُ السَّماواتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ
laa elaaha illaa anta badee-u’s samaawaate wal arze
There is no god but You, “Creator of the heavens and the earth...” (2:117),
وَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظيمِ
wa rabbul a’rshil a’zeem,
and “...Lord of the Mighty Throne” (9:129);
الْحَنَّانُ الْمَنَّانُ ذُوالْجَلالِ وَ الْاِكْرامِ
alhannaanul mannaano zul jalaale wal ikraam,
The Compassionate, the Gracious, “...Possessor of Majesty and Honour” (55:78),
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ الْحَليمُ الْكَريمُ
laa elaaha illal laahul haleemul kareemo,
There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the All-generous;
لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظيمُ
laa elaaha illal laahul a’liyyul a’zeemo,
There is no god but Allah, “...the Most high, the Great “ (2:255).
سُبْحانَ اللهِ رَبِّ السَّماواتِ السَّبْعِ
subhaanal laahe rabbis samaawaatis sab-e’,
Glory be to Allah, “...the Lord of the seven heavens” (23:86)
وَ رَبِّ الْاَرَضينَ السَّبْعِ
wa rabbil arazeenis sab-e’
and the Lord of the seven earths
وَ ما فيهِنَّ وَ ما بَيْنَهُنَّ وَ ما تَحْتَهُنَّ
wa maa feehinna wa maa baynahunna wa maa tahtahunna
and what is in them and what is between them and what is under them,
وَ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظيمِ
wa rabbil a’rshil a’zeeme,
and “...the Lord of the Mighty Throne” (23:86)
وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ رَبِّ الْعالِمينَ
wal hamdo lillaahe rabbil a’alameen,
and “...praise belongs to Allah the Lord of the worlds” (1:2)
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ashhado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ
lahul mulko, wa lahul hamdo,
“...His is the Kingdom and His is the praise ’’(64:1)
يُحْيي وَ يُميتُ وَ هُوَ حَىٌّ لا يَمُوتُ
yohyee wa yomeeto wa howa hayyun laa yamooto,
“...He gives life and causes to die” (2:258), and He is “...the Ever-living (Lord) who does not die” (25:58)
بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَ هُوَ عَلى كُلِّ شَيْ ءٍ قَديرٌ
be-yadehil khayro, wa howa a’laa kulle shayin qadeer,
in His hand is the good (Ref. 3:26), and He is “...powerful over everything” (3:26)
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
اِلهاً واحِداً اَحَداً صَمَداً
elaahan waahedan ahadan samadan
God, One, Single, Eternal Refuge,
لَمْ يَتَّخِذْ صاحِبَةً وَ لا وَلَداً
lam yattakhiz saahebatn wa laa waladan,
He has not taken to Himself “...either a consort or a son” (72:3);
وَ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُواً اَحَدٌ
wa lam yakun lahu kofowan ahad,
“and there is no one like Him” (112:4).
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
شَهادَةً اَرْجُو بِهَا النَّجاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ
shahaadatan arjoo behan najaata menan naare,
a testimony through which I hope for salvation from the Fire.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
شَهادَةً اَرْجُو بِهَا الدُّخُولَ اِلَى الْجَنَّةِ
shahaadatan arjoo behad dokhoole elal jannate,
a testimony through which I hope for entry into the Garden
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
ما دامَتِ الْجِبالُ راسِيَةً وَ بَعْدَ زَوالِها اَبَداً
maa daamatil jebaalo raaseyatan, wa ba’da zawaalehaa abadan,
as long as the mountains hold fast and after their ceasing to be, forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
ما دامَتِ الرُّوحُ في جَسَدي
maa daamatir roohe fee jasadee,
as long as the spirit remains in my body
وَ بَعْدَ خُروُجِها اَبَداً
wa ba’da khoroojehaa abadan,
and after its departure forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
عَلَى النَّشاطِ قَبْلَ الْكَسَلِ
a’lan nashaate qablal kasale
in activity before sluggishness
وَ عَلَى الْكَسَلِ بَعْدَ النَّشاطِ
wa a’lal kasale ba’dan nashaate,
and in sluggishness after activity
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
عَلَى الشَّبابِ قَبْلَ الْهَرَمِ
a’lash shabaabe qablal harame
in youth before old age
وَ عَلَى الْهَرَمِ بَعْدَ الشَّبابِ
wa a’lal harame ba’dash shabaabe,
and in old age after youth
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
عَلَى الْفَراغِ قَبْلَ الشُّغْلِ
a’lal faraaghe qablash shugle
in leisure before occupation
وَ عَلَى الشُغْلِ بَعْدَ الْفَراغِ
wa a’lash shugle ba’dal faraaghe,
and in occupation after leisure
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition of ever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ ما
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
عَمِلَتِ الْيَدانِ وَ ما لَمْ تَعْمَلا
maa a’melatil yadaane, wa maa lam ta’malaa
as long as the two hands labour and as long as they do not labour
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
ما سَمِعَتِ الْاُذُنانِ وَ ما لَمْ تَسْمَعا
maa same-a’til ozonaane wa maa lam tas-ma-a’a,
As long as the ears hear and as long as they do not hear,
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every Condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
ما اَبْصَرَتِ الْعَيْنانِ وَ ما لَمْ تُبْصِرا
maa absaratil a’ynaane, wa maa lam tubseraa
As long as the eyes see and as long as they do not see,
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
ما تَحَرَّكَ اللِّسانُ وَ ما لَمْ يَتَحَرَّكْ
maa taharrakal lesaano, wa maa lam yataharrak,
As long as the tongue moves and as long it does not move
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
قَبْلَ دُخُولي قَبْري وَ بَعْدَ دُخُولي قَبْري
qabla dokhoolee qabree, wa ba’da dokhoolee qabree,
before my entry into my grave and after my entry into my grave
وَ عَلى كُلِّ حالٍ اَبَداً
wa a’laa kulle haalin abadan,
and in every condition forever.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
فِي اللَّيْلِ اِذا يَغْشى وَ فِي النَّهارِ اِذا تَجَلَّى
fil layle ezaa yaghshaa, wa fin nahaare ezaa tajallaa,
in “...the night when it veils” (92:1) and in “...the day when it appears radiant” (92:2).
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
فِي الْاخِرَةِ وَ الْاُولى
fil aakherate wal oolaa,
in “...the end and the beginning” (92:13)
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
شَهادَةً اَدَّخِرُها لِهَوْلِ الْمُطَّلَعِ
shahaadan addakherohaa lehawlil muttale-e’,
a testimony which I store away for the terror that is beheld (on the Day of Resurrection).
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ashhado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
شَهادَةَ الْحَقِّ وَ كَلِمَةَ الْاِخْلاصِ
shahaadatal haqqe wa kalemaatal ikhlaase,
a testimony of truth and an assertion of sincerity.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
شَهادَةً يَشْهَدُ بِها سَمْعي وَ بَصَري
shahaadatan yash-hado behaa same’e wa basaree,
a testimony witnessed by my hearing, my sight,
وَ لَحْمي وَ دَمي وَ شَعْري وَ بَشَري وَ مُخّي
wa lahmee wa damee wa sha’ree wa basharee, wa mukh-khee
my flesh, my blood, my hair, my skin, my brain,
وَ قَصَبي وَ عَصَبي وَ ما تَسْتَقِلُّ بِهِ قَدَمَيَّ
wa qasabee wa a’sabee wa maa tastaqillo behi qadamayya,
my joints, my nerves, and what my feet carry.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لا اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لا شَريكَ لَهُ
ash-hado an laa elaaha illal laaho, wahdahu laa shareeka lahu,
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, no partner has He,
شَهادَةً اَرْجُو اَنْ يُطْلِقَ اللهُ بِها لِساني
shahaadatan arjoo an yutleqal laaho behaa lesaanee
a testimony with which I hope Allah looses my tongue
عِنْدَ خُرُوجِ نَفْسي حَتَّى يَتَوَفَّاني
i’nda khorooje nafsee hattaa tatawaffaanee
at the departure of my soul until I die,
وَ قَدْ خُتِمَ بِخَيْرٍ عَمَلى
wa qad khotema bekhayrin a’malee,
my actions having been sealed with good (ones),
aameena rabbal a’alameen.
Amen, O Lord of all Being.
