In his book of al-Misbah, Shaykh al-Tusi mentions that al-Mu`alla ibn Khunays has reported Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) as saying, “In Rajab, you may say the following supplicatory prayer; It has been also mentioned by Sayyid Ibn Tawus al-Hasani in his book of Iqbal al-A`mal. According to the narration, this supplicatory prayer is the most comprehensive and it is advisable to repeat it any time.

Shaykh al-Tusi (a.r.)has also narrated that a document signed by Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) was received by by Shaikh Abu al-Qasim Husain Ibn Rawh al-Nawbakhti (r.a.), Imam al-Mahdi’(peace be upon him)s representative, comprising that the following prayer is recommended to be said in the month of Rajab:
In this supplication, we swear upon Allah, Mighty and Glorified be He, for the sake of the two blessed births that took place in this month, Imam al-Jawaad (peace be upon him) and Imam al-Haadi (peace be upon him). We also seek forgiveness and pardon from Him and that He metes out unto us a favourable end.

It is recommended to offer a sixty-unit prayer in full month of Rajab. Each night, it is recommended to offer two units of this prayer in the first unit of which Surah al-Fatihah is recited once, Surah al-Kafirun (No. 109) repeated three times, and Surah al-Tawhid recited one time.

It is also recommended to pass one’s hand over the face while reciting the last sentence of this supplication.
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is reported to have said that if one offers this prayer and recites this supplication, Almighty Allah will respond to his needs and will award him the reward of sixth times of Hajj and `Umrah.

The du`a, according to Shaykh `Abbas Qummi in Mafateehul Jinaan has been taught by Imam Ja`far as-Sadiq (a). Sayyid Ibn Tawus has narrated that Muhammad ibn Dhakwan—known as ‘al-Sajjad’ due to his long prostrations during which he used to weep so heavily that he lost his sight asked Imam Ja`far al-Sadiq (a.s), saying, “May Allah accept me as ransom for you! We are now in Rajab; please teach me a supplication due to which Almighty Allah may help me.” Hence, the Imam (a.s) asked him to write down the following dua: - Exegesis of dua
